San Mi

San Mi has been a member of Prison Outreach Network for over 10 years.  She has led Praise and Worship in many of prisons and produced CDs to help raise funds for the work of PON.

San Mi received external support allowing her to set up her own project, which included production of her current CD titled “Tranquillity”, which is distributed freely to prisoners via the Chaplaincy on request, and raise funds in order to run vocal workshops in prisons.

Tranquillity is a combination of songs & poems used and often requested by (inmates) during her prison visits. Her track, “On my knees”, can be heard on Premier Christian Radio.

San Mi says “I was often asked by inmates for copies of my songs or poems, because it helped them deal with issues they were struggling with, including the fear of siblings going down the same road as them, self-harm & even attempted suicide.

I was then asked by two inmates to sing a song written by them & when this was completed, they wanted me to sing more songs; so I suggested teaching them how to sing the songs for themselves.  This inspired me to produce the CD and set up a vocal workshop in prison. Their song, “Midnight Train”, is also featured on the CD as a tribute to their work.

The workshops has helped the inmates deal with other issues, including managing anger & I was encouraged to hear that some of them wanted to go back into music, and to give something back to their local community when they leave prison.  It is important to keep these workshops running as they are benefiting from it”.
